When the fire crackles in the fire place, the peaks of the mountains show the first snow and the days become shorter, then it's time for Advent in South Tyrol. The skilfully carved cribs are placed in the living rooms, decorated with moss and pine twigs. The pine twigs, illuminated by light garlands, show the way to the original Christmas markets of South Tyrol. You can admire hand made Christmas decoration, made of glass, wood or straw, or local products like "Patschen", traditional slippers made of loden, and everywhere you can smell the Zelten and the apple-strudel.

Sterzing: the living tradition
This medieval city with mining industry, at an altitude of almost 1000 metres, offers historical monuments, a nice Christmas market and the impressive Tower of the Twelves (1486). The colourful houses with the characteristic oriels create a special atmosphere.
